Once Black Friday hits, every online retailer seemingly begins having daily deals and promotions – often flooding your email inbox to make sure you know.

Along with these holiday season sales, many eCommerce businesses also have sweepstakes-style giveaways and contests, usually involving entering an email address and/or promoting their company on personal social media accounts. This is a great marketing strategy – and we will tell you why!

First and foremost, online shoppers who have previously purchased your products (often those already on your email lists) will be more likely to return to your website if they know something is in it for them. Once there, they may check in every day – even beyond the holiday season – to make sure they aren’t missing out.

The best way to use giveaways and contests to your advantage is to require an email address for entry. Since the potential customer is eager to win free stuff (and to be honest, who wouldn’t be?), they are more likely to be comfortable with entering an email address – especially if the rules state that this is how they will be informed if they win.

Whether it via product suggestions embedded in the page, discounts or sales promoted across your site or even a follow-up email with either of the former, capturing a potential customer’s attention while they are excited and engaged with your company is the perfect opportunity to redirect them to your store and increase website traffic.
